Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc. (MCFA) recently celebrated the company’s 20-year anniversary with employees on at its headquarters in Houston. To honor the occasion, 69 employees who have worked at MCFA for its full 20 years signed a commemorative forklift. The forklift, which also features a special decal signed by all MCFA employees, will be displayed in the company’s headquarters building and will later be used throughout MCFA’s manufacturing operations to move materials in fabrication and assembly.
“At MCFA we are not only celebrating 20 years of success,” said MCFA President Hiroshi Nagai. “We are celebrating 20 years of serving the needs of our customers and the community. It is because of the commitment, loyalty and strength of MCFA’s employees and dealership network that we are able to celebrate this achievement today.”
When the company formed, MCFA employed 245 people at its 172,000 square feet facility in Houston. Today, including subsidiaries, MCFA employs more than 950 people, and its facility spans more than 695,000 square feet. MCFA’s 20-year anniversary comes less than a year after the company manufactured its 350,000 lift truck in its Houston facility, a feat equivalent to producing enough forklifts to stretch across the state of Texas.
Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc. (MCFA), announced that it is expanding its Houston manufacturing facilities in order to meet the material handling industry’s growing demand for electric products.
The planned expansion will increase the production capacity at MCFA’s world-class facility by more than 40%. The additional space will allow for increased production and assembly for all electric and internal combustion forklifts built in Houston.
With the introduction of this new facility, MCFA will also expand its manufacturing to include production of Cat lift trucks and Mitsubishi forklift trucks 6-16 ton internal combustion models to meet the demand of customers’ globally. The growth also will support future production of the newly introduced Jungheinrich ECR 327/336 series of electric end rider pallet trucks in addition to future products.
“Upon completion of this new addition, MCFA’s Houston factory will become the most comprehensive forklift manufacturing facility in North America,” said Kent Eudy, vice president of sales and marketing for MCFA. “We plan to build all five classes of products right here in Houston, giving us greater flexibility to respond to the needs of our customers and dealer network.”
MCFA expects to break ground at its Houston headquarters, located at 2121 West Sam Houston Parkway North, in the first quarter of 2013. The expansion is also expected to create additional manufacturing jobs in Houston while engaging the services of local suppliers.
Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks recently announced the introduction of the new PWR30 electric walkie end-rider. The new walkie end-rider is a great solution for a wide range of applications, including low level order picking, long distance transporting and loading and unloading trailers.
The PWR30 series, available in a 6,000 lb. capacity, is built for speed and productivity. The new end-rider also features:
• Quick Acceleration: Allowing maximum speed with smooth and precise control.
• Top Speed: The fastest end-rider in the industry with speeds up to 9.3 mph helps operators get more done in less time.
• Regenerative Braking: The responsive regenerative braking allows the truck to come to a stop prior to the electromagnetic brake being applied, minimizing additional wear on the system.
• Reliable Strength: The fabricated forks on the walkie end-rider are the thickest in the industry. Combined with cast steel fork tips, they are designed to withstand tough environments.
• Enhanced Ergonomics: With the spacious operator platform and ergonomic floor pad, operators can comfortably adjust their position throughout the day. The foot alcove allows for a wider stance to help ensure the operators’ feet are fully on the platform.
There are also valuable options that can be added to increase productivity with the PWR30 series. The electric coast control option can be added to help operators save time and energy by eliminating the need for operators to step back onto the truck in order to move to the next pick location. A corrosion protection package, which includes galvanized chassis, pull rods, load wheel linkage, lift linkage and forks, is also available to help provide increased durability in challenging environments.

On August 18, 2011, Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc celebrated manufacturing its 350,000th forklift. That’s enough forklifts to stretch from Philadelphia to Nashville! MCFA reached this landmark number through the manufacturing and distribution of three distinct brands of material handling equipment – Cat lift trucks, Mitsubishi forklift trucks and Jungheinrich warehouse products.
More than 700 MCFA employees, including recently appointed MCFA President Hiroshi Nagai, gathered for an ice cream social to celebrate the manufacturing milestone. The 350,000th forklift was painted blue and branded MCFA, was on display in front of the factory and later will be used in fabrication and assembly tasks around MCFA facilities.
MCFA formed in 1992 when Mitsubishi Heavy Industries joined efforts with Caterpillar Industrial Inc. The company produced its 100,000th forklift in 1998 and four years later, in 2002, moved into its current headquarters in West Houston. In 2005, MCFA celebrated the shipment of its 250,000th forklift and now in 2011 celebrates its latest milestone with the production of the 350,000th forklift from its Houston manufacturing facility.
“MCFA prides itself on manufacturing quality and reliable products,” said Jay Gusler, director of operations, MCFA. “We’re excited to reach this milestone of 350,000 forklifts produced from our Houston manufacturing facility and appreciate the support of our employees, dealer network and customers in helping us realize this major company achievement.”
