Answers to Your Lift Equipment Service Questions
Question:
How often should wheel bearings be greased on 3,000 – 8,000 capacity forklifts?
Answer:
Most drive axle bearings do not have to be greased because they are lubricated by the differential oil. However, the steer wheel bearings should be removed, cleaned and repacked with grease at least twice a year. If you don’t, you could burn up the bearings which could lead to hub failure, and in really severe cases, could lead to the wheel falling off. ~Don Taake, Regional Operations Manager, Dallas – 25 years experience
Question:
How often should I change my hydraulic oil and filter?
Answer:
You should replace the oil and filter once every 1500 hours to remove any particles trapped in the oil or filter. If you don’t, trapped particles can get into the hydraulic system and destroy the hydraulic seals that protect your equipment. Premature wear on metal parts can lead to pump failure or hydraulic cylinder failure. ~ Mike Bailey, Service Manager, Waco – 28 years experience
